EMERALD CARE-
Emerald is harder than quartz or tourmaline and resists most scratching and wear. It is less hard than diamond and sapphire however, and like all gems, it may be damaged if dropped or bumped hard. Also, small microscopic fissures are common to emerald due to their crystal nature and current mining methods. In the processing that takes place after cutting and polishing, emerald fissures that reach the surface (if any) are masked with a colorless oil or resin to reduce the visibility of those fissures. This simple and low-tech process is accepted as normal by the gem industry and is called clarity enhancement which may be minor, moderate or heavy. Emerald color, however, is unaltered and natural.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CARE OF YOUR EMERALD JEWELERY
I. Do not leave your emerald ring on while washing dishes or washing with soap. This is because the diamonds as well as the emerald attract grease and soap. As these substances accumulate on the bottom of the gemstones, they cause them to lose their lively brilliance.
II. For resizing or repairs take it only to knowledgeable, professional jewelers. Sometimes trying to save a little on a cut-rate job may cause extensive damage. Take it to Emerald House and we will resize it for free.
III. Do not clean the ring in ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners or acetone. These may cause damage to the stone or the setting. Avoid strong soaps, ‘jewelry cleaner‘ liquids or other cleaners.
IV. HOW TO CLEAN:
Clean your emerald jewelery by using room temperature running water and a soft toothbrush: brush repeatedly on the underside of the emerald (and diamonds) to remove accumulations of dirt and grease. Use a mild soap like hand soap or Woolite. You will see that the diamonds begin to sparkle like new and the emerald will brighten. After drying the gold can be rubbed with a polishing cloth.

A diamond is a form of carbon that was created deep within the core of the earth more than 3 billion years ago and brought to the surface by volcanic eruption. After the magma cooled, it solidified into kimberlite, where the precious rough diamond is still found today.
In diamond, each carbon atom is bonded to four other carbon atoms in a tetrahedral structure, like a pyramid. Each link or bond is the same length, and the tetrahedral formation is therefore completely regular. It is the strength and regularity of this bonding which makes diamond very hard, non-volatile and resistant to chemical attack. Theoretically a perfect diamond crystal could be composed of one giant molecule of carbon.
Carbon is a non-metallic element with the atomic number of 6, and an atomic Weight of 12. In combination with oxygen and hydrogen it is contained by all living objects. In the form of graphite it appears black or dark gray, opaque, and is very soft, whereas in the form of diamond is it clear, colourless, and extremely hard. Diamond is highest on the scale of hardness (rated 10 on the Mohs scale) and is the hardest known naturally occurring substance.
Diamonds have since early man been a fascination. The Romans thought diamonds were splinters from falling stars while the Greeks regarded the sparkling gems as tears of the gods. It is a derivation of the Greek word "adamas," meaning unconquerable, that gave the diamond its name. per symbolic object, with additional functionalities. In this case the jewellery carries the capacity to purify drinking water of arsenic, making nomadic journeys safer and more viable. Following is an image of the neckpiece which contains mesoporous iron oxide and measuring device in lid. Working with this type of project raises all sorts of interesting issues. Some of these were articulated yesterday during an interview with The Age during which the reporter brought up the idea of jewellery being something of whimsy. Through augmenting the behavioural potentials of jewellery we somewhat take away its innocence. It is no longer something that can just be interchanged at will without thought.
To this I responded that there are different types of emotional relationships with different types of jewellery. A wedding ring has perceived value above and beyond its material worth. Through augmenting the healing potentialities of a wedding band we increase its significance. A few thoughts…
